Artist’s Statement Art is the visual expression of emotions, feelings, desires, and dreams which cannot be properly expressed through other means. For the sculptor, this means building forms which are attempts at revealing the deeper truths of humanity. My work attempt’s to create an environment that transcends the velocity that drives our daily lives. Mass and space become the environs of meditation and quite. Art can say many things to the audience, my hope is to define a place where people can observe, reflect, and leave recharged. I cannot tell a person what to see in my work. I can only hope that their experience is meaningful. If I can accomplish this, then my art has succeeded. R. Scott Oliver |
